Hi, I'm Julia, and DevonMade is just me in my home studio in Exmouth.
When it gets really busy, I call it 'the nerve centre' which makes me chuckle, at least.
I'm partner to a wonderful guy, Mum of 3 children, an elderly border terrier, and 4 backyard chickens. They are my unpaid modelling crew. Well, I pay them in meals and hugs..
As a SEN parent, in a neurodiverse household, I have experience of supporting children's sensory needs, and I'm keen to craft ways to support the sensory needs of you and your family.
I started off selling warm accessories at a few local craft fairs, then through my Etsy Shop. DevonMade has grown a lot since 2017, at the right pace for me to manage alongside my family.
I have been driven to create for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I rarely complained of being bored, always having ideas of things I wanted to make, using whatever materials or oddments I could find around my home!
There have been times, over the years, when I have disconnected from this need to make things, perhaps due to other pressures on my time (e.g. having young children!), but never for long!
I'm happiest when I'm in the process of creating something!
You'll find me listening to 6 Music or Uncanny podcast and drinking strong tea whilst having a great time sewing orders and working on experimenting with new items and techniques when I can!
If I'm really busy working on orders, I might eat a few biscuits for lunch - shhh, don't tell my kids!
